Your Shepherds in Care: Chaplaincy in Our Care Homes
Theological Education
Caring for the elderly and the sick is at the very heart of our ministry. Rooted in the compassionate example of Jesus Christ—who healed the sick, comforted the afflicted, and reached out with boundless love—we are called to extend His healing presence to every corner of our community. Our priests visit care homes with open hearts and gentle hands, offering solace, spiritual nourishment, and the warmth of Christ’s embrace. We believe that each person, regardless of their faith background, deserves to feel cherished and supported during times of vulnerability.
Our ministry is offered on the basis of open chaplaincy, welcoming all residents—whether they are of our faith tradition, another denomination, or none at all. During these visits, our dedicated priests strive to build meaningful relationships through both one-on-one interactions and group services. In each visit, practical care is thoughtfully provided:
Personal Presence
Our priests spend quality time with residents, sharing in conversation, silent prayer, or simply a comforting presence—listening to your joys, concerns, and memories with genuine compassion.
Reception of the Blessed Sacrament
In recognition of the spiritual sustenance that the Eucharist offers, we bring the Blessed Sacrament into care homes. This sacrament provides vital spiritual nourishment and is a constant reminder of Christ’s loving presence.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
We offer the opportunity for confession in a respectful and private setting. Witnessing God’s mercy through the forgiveness of sins brings great healing and hope, reaffirming that no one is ever beyond the reach of His love.
Group Celebrations
In addition to individual visits, our ministry extends to group services. We offer accessible Mass celebrations with hymns and praise that are tailored to the needs of care home residents. These gatherings seek to uplift the spirit and foster a sense of community and belonging.
Every interaction in our care homes is designed to honour both the dignity and the unique spiritual journey of each resident. By spending time, praying together, and sharing the sacraments, we aim to reflect the love and mercy of Christ, easing the burdens of loneliness and despair with light and hope.
If you or a loved one is in a care home and could benefit from this ministry, or if you would like to learn more about our pastoral care services, please do not hesitate to contact us. At the Ancient Catholic Church, our doors and our hearts are always open—extending a hand of friendship, support, and the gentle, transforming love of Christ.
